Real Time Virtual Worlds

Real Time Virtual Worlds is an ongoing project by Geist Software Labs to develop a new online virtual environment consisting of thousands of worlds, each with its own unique landscape and fauna. Visitors will be able to travel to any point in the universe and settle on habitable planets and space stations. Developers and artists will be able to use the Geist3D editor to develop content ranging from characters and buildings to interactive games.

Many of the necessary components have already been developed. Geist3D is capable of rendering thousand of earth like planets including mountains, oceans and primitive plants. Each planet supports the laws of rigid body physics and avatars can freely walk around on the surfaces. We are now seeking computer graphics artists who are interested in devoting their time to the project and create content including characters, vehicles and space stations.

Canada Coast Watch Simulation

Geist Software Labs has recently completed a visualization project for coastal surveillance scenarios with the Canadian Department of Defense Research. The goal was to recreate the scenarios produced by a simulation workbench in a virtual reality environment. Part of the visualization required a detail model of the coastal regions of British Columbia for which we developed a terrain generator which combines Landsat 7 satellite images with digital elevation data to produce terrain files for the Geist3D rendering engine. Here is a detailed movie (100MB Movie) which requires the Xvid codec.
